St. Angela’s Academy Alumnae
Let Your Light Shine!

WHAT IS ST. ANGELA'S ALUMNAE

S. A. A. graduates and former students maintain a close relationship with the School through visits, letters, and St. Angela's Alumnae Association. The Alumnae's purpose is to perpetuate friendship and mutual encouragement among its members, as well as to promote and support the Academy in a spirit of loyalty. While the Academy was operating the Alumnae offered scholarships in order to encourage present day students to pursue academic studies.
Because of the uniqueness and closeness of a residential school, any girl who attended the Academy for at least one semester, is considered an Alumnae and may become a member of the organization by paying a small fee for a period of four years.
Teachers, support staff and any boys who attended the Academy in the beginning years (1920's) are Alumnae Associates may become a member of the organization by paying a small fee for a period of four years.
The membership free for the period 2010-2014 is a one-time fee of $50.00. We ask your support and cooperation in continuing the work of the Alumnae Association. Your fees cover administration costs, i.e. newsletters, postage, duplications, etc. We are sure that you realize the importance of these projects and thank you for your continued support. Please check your envelope for membership status. (It will indicate "Fee pd”. Please keep sending address changes and notes of personal information to SAA Alumnae c/o Sister Rosetta. Your fellow Alumnae members are interested in keeping in touch with you.
Alumnae Newsletters: For the past twenty plus years, two newsletters were sent out by mail to those who were on the newsletter list which usually totalled approximately 700. This past June, 2012, we began to send letters by e-mail to those members whose e-mail Sister Rosetta had on hand. Everyone is encouraged to send her e-mail (not Facebook) to Sister Rosetta.

St. Angela's Academy, an all-girls' residential school operated by the Ursuline Sisters at Prelate, SK closed on
June 30, 2007.

THE END OF AN ERA
With heavy hearts we present the following press release by Sister Teresita Kambeitz, General Superior and Chairperson of St. Angela's Board:

After much prayerful consideration, the Ursuline Sisters with deep regret will terminate their sponsorship and management of St. Angela's Academy, effective June 30, 2007. The search will begin for a new owner to operate the facility as an educational institution. In making the announcement on Oct. 16th, Sister Teresita Kambeitz, General Superior of the Ursulines of Prelate, stated that because of aging Sisters, rising costs and low enrolments, the time has come for the Sisters to end their ministry at St. Angela's. The current year will be the last year that girls will be able to benefit from a high school education at Prelate within a boarding school context in the spirit of St. Angela Merici, foundress of the Ursuline Order.
St. Angela's Academy opened in 1919 when three Ursuline Sisters from Germany, Mother Luitgardis, Mother Clementia and Sister Theckla, came with Father Joseph Riedinger, OMI, to educate the children of German immigrants. The school flourished and became widely known as a center for Christian education for girls, with emphasis on the fine arts. However, over the past twenty years, as enrolments began to decline, the Sisters have been "reading the signs" and have now come to the decision to withdraw from the Academy.
Sister Rosetta Reiniger, Executive Director of St. Angela's Academy for the past 18 years, stated that the sadness of ending 88 years of Ursuline ministry at St. Angela's is mingled with gratitude to God for calling the Ursulines to make a significant contribution to the church and society of Western Canada and beyond. She has invited the Sisters, staffs and students to make this final year a "banner" year as they bring St. Angela's Academy toward its grand finale.
